The season is officially over for the Milton Menace.
On Monday, April 28th, the Menace had their backs against the wall being down 3-1 to the Trenton Golden Hawks in the OJHL Finals. They managed to get a win to send the series to Game Six at the Milton Memorial Arena.
That game took place on Wednesday, April 30th in front of 1150 people in attendance.
The Menace jumped out to a lead in the first period. Captain Graeme MacAuley scored his 8th goal of the postseason, on the powerplay, with help from Luke Johnston and Madden MacDougall. That’d be the lone goal of the frame as the Menace went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, the Menace kept chugging along. MacDougall was able to bury his 12th of the OJHL Playoffs, with Spencer Vandenberg getting the assist. It was 2-0 Milton after 40 minutes of action.
It really seemed like this one was going to a Game Seven as the Menace moved into turtle mode. After outshooting the Golden Hawks 25-19 over the first two periods, the Menace found themselves getting outshot 13-2 in the final period. That was the nail in the coffin as with just over two minutes to go in the game, Trenton was able to get themselves on the board. A minute later, it was a tie game. It’d go into overtime at 2-2.
The Golden Hawks then dominated in extra time, outshooting the Menace 14-3. The last shot was the backbreaker, as Trenton would beat the Menace 3-2 in overtime, winning the OJHL Championship.
Carter Bickle was in net for Milton. He was busy this game, stopping 43 of 46 shots. That gave him the .934% save percentage in a losing effort.
The Menace now head into an important offseason with players expected to move on, either from graduating out of the league or by advancing to a higher level of play. With the NCAA removing their restrictions on prospective players taking part in the CHL (OHL, WHL, QMJHL), the OJHL as a whole will naturally lose players, but also gain some in the process.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the offseason on all things Milton Menace.
