Milton Menace Preview: Menace vs Oakville Blades, February 28, 2024
The Milton Menace will host the Oakville Blades on Wednesday afternoon as they look for their eighth straight win.
The Menace are coming off a 6-2 win over the Cobourg Cougars on Monday. Milton opened the scoring with two goals in the first period. Gavin Sheehan and Alessandro Petreccia both scored, and Petreccia’s goal came on the power-play. The Cougars cut the Menace’s lead in half with the second period’s only goal, which was scored while Cobourg was shorthanded. Joseph Macchione added a power-play goal 33 seconds into the third period to reinstate the Menace’s two-goal lead. The Cougars scored a power-play goal, but the Menace followed it up with three goals to secure a 6-2 win. Aidan Puley’s goal came on the power-play followed by even-strength goals from Ivan Fabjan and Justin O’Donnell. Forbes Anderson stopped 21 of 23 shots in the win.
Oakville has won four straight games, with their most recent win coming over the Leamington Flyers on Sunday. They are seventh in the West Conference with a 28-20-1-3 record. They are in a tight points race for a higher seed with the Burlington Cougars and Georgetown Raiders, who both sit one point ahead of them.
This is the fourth meeting between Oakville and Milton this season. The teams played just two weeks ago when the Menace took home a 5-0 win. Milton won 4-3 and 3-2 in the meetings before that. Milton will be looking for the sweep of the season series on Wednesday. The Menace have secured the second spot in the West Conference with three games remaining. If the standings stay the same, this game could be a preview of the first round of the playoffs.
Puck drop from Milton Memorial Arena is at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. If you aren’t attending the game in person, you can stream the game on FloHockey and visit the Menace’s social media account for updates.
